Description

A quick and delicious twist on classic hot dogs, these Air Fryer Grilled Cheese Hot Dogs combine crispy air-fried hot dogs with melted cheddar cheese inside buttery toasted buns. Perfect for a comforting snack or easy meal, topped with your favorite condiments like ketchup and mustard.

Ingredients

Scale

Hot Dogs

  • 4 hot dog buns
  • 4 hot dogs

Cheese and Butter

  • 8 slices cheddar cheese (or your preferred cheese)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (softened)

Optional Toppings

  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Relish
  • Onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and allow it to preheat for 3 minutes to ensure even cooking and a crispy finish.
  2. Cook the Hot Dogs: Place the hot dogs in the air fryer basket and cook for 4–5 minutes until they are heated through and slightly crispy. Remove them from the basket and set aside.
  3. Assemble Grilled Cheese Hot Dogs: Butter the inside and outside of each hot dog bun generously. Place one slice of cheese inside the bun, add the cooked hot dog on top, and then cover it with another slice of cheese to create the grilled cheese effect.
  4. Air Fry the Assembled Dogs: Carefully place the assembled buns back into the air fryer basket. Cook at 375°F for 4–6 minutes until the buns are golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey.
  5. Serve and Top: Remove the hot dogs from the air fryer, add your preferred toppings such as ketchup, mustard, relish, or onions. Serve them hot and enjoy your gooey, crispy grilled cheese hot dogs!

Notes

  • For extra crispy buns, ensure to butter them evenly on both sides.
  • You can substitute cheddar cheese with any meltable cheese like American, mozzarella, or pepper jack.
  • Add vegetables such as diced onions or jalapeños inside the bun for added flavor.
  • Adjust cooking times based on your air fryer model to prevent burning.
  • Use gluten-free buns to make this recipe gluten-free if desired.
