Ingredients
Scale
Beef Marinade
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Vegetables and Stir-fry
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Other
- 3 cups cooked white rice (or brown rice)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Green onions and sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced flank steak with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Toss well to coat evenly, then let marinate for 10 minutes to enhance the flavor and tenderize the meat.
- Heat the Oil: Place a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil, heating until shimmering but not smoking.
- Cook the Beef: Add the marinated beef to the hot skillet and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, until the beef is browned on the outside but still tender inside. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside to prevent overcooking.
- Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add a bit more vegetable oil if needed. Add the sliced onion and bell peppers, cooking for about 3-4 minutes until they start to become tender but still retain some crispness.
- Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds, allowing the garlic to release its aroma without burning.
- Combine Beef and Vegetables: Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss everything together thoroughly. Continue cooking for another minute or so to ensure the beef is heated through and all ingredients are well coated with the flavorful sauce.
- Serve: Spoon the beef and pepper stir-fry over hot cooked rice. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds for added flavor and texture if desired. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Notes
- Use sirloin as an alternative to flank steak if preferred.
- Brown rice can be substituted for white rice for added fiber and nutrients.
- Adjust soy and oyster sauce quantities to control saltiness.
- For extra heat, add chopped chili or a drizzle of chili oil when stir-frying.
- Marinating the beef is key for tenderness and flavor absorption.
- Cook vegetables just until tender to preserve their color and crunch.
