Description

This Brown Butter Dulce de Leche Krispie Bliss recipe combines the classic crispy texture of Rice Krispies treats with a rich, nutty flavor from brown butter and a luscious sweetness from dulce de leche. Finished with a touch of sea salt and optional flaky salt topping, these bars provide a perfect balance of creamy sweetness and crunch in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 10 oz mini marshmallows
  • ½ cup dulce de leche
  • ¼ tsp sea salt

Optional Topping

  • Flaky salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Brown the Butter: In a large pot, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Continue cooking and stirring occasionally until the butter turns golden brown and emits a nutty aroma, being careful not to burn it.
  2. Melt the Marshmallows: Add the mini marshmallows to the browned butter and stir continuously until they are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Add the Dulce de Leche: Stir in the dulce de leche and sea salt, mixing thoroughly until fully combined into the marshmallow mixture.
  4. Coat the Rice Krispies: Pour in the Rice Krispies cereal and gently fold to evenly coat all the cereal with the dulce de leche marshmallow mixture.
  5. Press and Set: Transfer the coated cereal mixture to a greased 9×13-inch pan. Use a spatula to press it down firmly and evenly to help it set properly.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the Krispie bars to cool completely at room temperature. Once set, cut into squares and sprinkle flaky salt on top if desired for an extra burst of flavor.

Notes

  • Be careful when browning butter to avoid burning it, which will make the bars taste bitter.
  • To help press the mixture evenly, grease your spatula or use parchment paper to avoid sticking.
  • Storing the bars in an airtight container will keep them fresh for up to 3 days.
  • You can substitute regular marshmallows if mini marshmallows are unavailable, but adjust melting time accordingly.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with a vegan butter alternative and dulce de leche with a suitable caramelized coconut milk product.
