Ingredients
Scale
Onion Mixture
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter
Cheese and Seasonings
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Garnish (Optional)
- Chopped chives or parsley
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and promote even baking.
- Toss onions with oil and seasonings: In a large bowl, toss the thinly sliced onions with olive oil or melted butter until evenly coated. Add the shredded cheddar, grated Parmesan, all-purpose flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly to ensure the onions are well coated with the cheese and seasonings.
- Shape the crisps: Spoon small mounds of the onion and cheese mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing each about 2 inches apart. Using the back of a spoon, gently flatten each mound slightly to help them bake evenly and form crisp shapes.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the crisps for 15 to 18 minutes, or until they turn golden, bubbly, and have lightly browned edges.
- Cool and garnish: Remove the crisps from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, allowing them to firm up. Carefully transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Garnish with chopped chives or parsley if desired before serving.
Notes
- These crisps make a great snack, appetizer, or crunchy topping for soups and salads.
- Ensure the onions are thinly sliced for even baking and crispiness.
- For an extra kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes to the seasoning mix.
