Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Vegetables
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
Sauces and Seasonings
- ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
- ½ tsp sesame oil (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Thickening Agent
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp water
Garnish (Optional)
- Sesame seeds
- Sliced green onions
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce and Slurry: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey (or brown sugar), sesame oil (if using), and a pinch of black pepper until well combined. In another small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to form a smooth slurry and set aside.
- Cook the Broccoli: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until they turn bright green and become slightly tender but still crisp. Remove the broccoli from the pan and set it aside.
- Cook the Chicken: Add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil to the same pan. Add the chicken pieces and cook for 5–6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is browned on all sides and cooked through. Add the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for another 30 seconds until the aroma is released and fragrant.
- Combine Ingredients and Thicken the Sauce: Return the cooked broccoli to the pan. Pour in the prepared sauce mixture and stir everything to coat evenly. Then add the cornstarch slurry and continue cooking for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and glazes the chicken and broccoli.
- Serve and Garnish: Remove the pan from heat. Garnish the dish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired. Serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
Notes
- To keep broccoli crisp-tender, avoid overcooking during stir-frying.
- For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes to the sauce mixture.
- Substitute tamari for soy sauce to make this dish gluten-free.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to control sodium content.
- Optional sesame oil adds a nutty aroma but can be omitted for a milder flavor.
