Description

Churro Cruffins are a delightful hybrid pastry combining the flaky layers of a croissant with the sweet, cinnamon-sugar flavor of churros. This easy-to-make treat is perfect for breakfast or as a sweet snack and can be prepared in just 30 minutes. Light, buttery, and coated with a cinnamon sugar mixture, these cruffins offer a deliciously crisp outside and tender inside that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted Butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup Whole Milk
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Finishing

  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Muffin Tin. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a muffin tin thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until evenly combined.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients. In another bowl, melt the unsalted butter and then mix it with the whole milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the batter light.
  5. Fill Muffin Cups. Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin tin, filling each cup about two-thirds full to allow room for rising.
  6. Bake the Cruffins. Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the cruffins are golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar. While warm, roll each cruffin in the cinnamon sugar mixture (sugar and cinnamon combined) to coat the outside for that classic churro flavor.

Notes

  • Make sure the butter is fully melted but not hot when combining with eggs to avoid scrambling.
  • Do not overmix the batter to maintain a tender texture.
  • Rolling the cruffins in cinnamon sugar while warm helps the coating stick better.
  • Use a non-stick muffin tin or grease well to prevent sticking.
  • Serve fresh for best taste and texture.
