Ingredients
Scale
Caramel Sauce
- 5 tablespoons butter
- ¾ cup firmly packed brown sugar
- ¼ cup water
- ½ cup chopped pecans (optional)
Rolls
- 2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent rolls
- 3 tablespoons butter, softened
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- ¼ cup brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the rolls.
- Melt Butter and Prepare Caramel: Place 5 tablespoons of butter in an ungreased 9×13-inch baking pan and put it in the oven to melt. Once melted, remove the pan carefully and stir in ¾ cup brown sugar, ¼ cup water, and chopped pecans if using. Set the caramel mixture aside.
- Prepare Dough Rectangles: Separate each can of crescent rolls into 4 rectangles by pinching the perforations closed to seal each piece.
- Butter the Dough: Spread the remaining 3 tablespoons of softened butter evenly over each rectangle.
- Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, combine ¼ cup sugar, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, and the remaining ¼ cup brown sugar, then evenly sprinkle this mixture over the buttered dough rectangles.
- Roll and Slice: Starting at the shorter side of each rectangle, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut each roll into 4 slices, yielding 32 pieces total.
- Arrange Rolls in Pan: Place the rolls cut side down in the prepared baking pan over the caramel mixture.
- Bake: Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until they turn golden brown and are cooked through.
- Invert and Serve: Remove the pan from the oven and immediately invert it onto a baking sheet to release the rolls and the caramel sauce. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Using refrigerated crescent dough saves time but you can also make your own dough if desired.
- Adding pecans adds texture, but you can omit them if you prefer a nut-free version.
- Make sure to invert the pan immediately after baking to prevent the caramel from sticking.
- Serve these rolls warm for the best gooey texture and rich flavor.
- Leftovers can be warmed in a microwave or oven for a few seconds before serving.
