Ingredients
Scale
Pastry and Filling
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 1/3 cup marinara sauce
- 20 slices pepperoni
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Seasonings and Garnish
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Puff Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the sheet of puff pastry to smooth out any creases and to slightly enlarge the sheet for easier rolling.
- Layer the Fillings: Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the puff pastry sheet, leaving a small border around the edges to seal the rolls later. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
- Add Pepperoni and Seasonings: Place the pepperoni slices evenly on top of the cheese. Then sprinkle the red chili flakes and dried oregano over the top for a flavorful kick.
- Roll the Pastry: Starting from one edge, carefully roll the puff pastry sheet tightly into a log shape without tearing the pastry. Pinch the edges to seal the roll.
- Slice the Rolls: Using a sharp knife, cut the rolled log into 11 even slices to form individual rolls.
- Prepare for Baking: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the rolls cut side up on the baking sheet, spaced slightly apart. Brush the tops with olive oil to ensure a golden, crispy crust.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed up and golden brown.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the rolls cool slightly. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving. Enjoy warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- You can substitute pepperoni with other deli meats like salami or turkey pepperoni for a different flavor.
- For a spicier version, increase the red chili flakes or add a dash of hot sauce to the marinara before spreading.
- These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes if needed.
- Make sure the puff pastry is cold before working with it to prevent sticking and make rolling easier.
