Description

These Easy Strawberry Toaster Strudels are a delightful homemade treat featuring flaky puff pastry filled with thick strawberry jam and topped with a sweet vanilla icing. Perfect for breakfast or a special snack, they combine a crisp golden crust with a luscious fruit filling and a creamy glaze.

Ingredients

Scale

Strudels

  • 2 sheets puff pastry (thawed)
  • â…” cup thick strawberry jam (seedless preferred)
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 Tablespoon water

Icing

  • 1 ½ tablespoons salted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Place one sheet of puff pastry on a prepared sheet and gently roll it into a flat square. Cut this into 6 equal rectangles.
  2. Make Filling: In a small bowl, whisk together the strawberry jam and cornstarch until smooth to create a thick filling. Spoon about 1 ½ tablespoons of the jam mixture onto 3 of the puff pastry rectangles, leaving a ½-inch border all around.
  3. Apply Egg Wash: Whisk the egg and 1 tablespoon of water in a small bowl. Lightly brush the edges of the jam-covered rectangles with the egg wash using a pastry brush or fingertip to help seal the strudels.
  4. Assemble Strudels: Place the remaining puff pastry rectangles over the jam-covered ones and press the edges firmly to seal. Transfer the completed strudels to the refrigerator to chill while you prepare the second puff pastry sheet in the same way.
  5. Bake: Arrange all 6 sealed strudels on a single baking sheet. Lightly brush the tops with egg wash. Bake in the preheated oven for 16 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and let cool on a wire rack until just warm.
  6. Make Icing: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust with more milk if necessary to achieve a drizzle consistency.
  7. Glaze and Serve: Pour the icing into a small resealable plastic bag, snip off a tiny corner, and drizzle the icing over the cooled warm strudels. Serve and enjoy your homemade strawberry toaster strudels!

Notes

  • Make sure puff pastry is fully thawed before working to prevent cracking.
  • Use seedless thick jam for a smoother filling.
  • For a crispier crust, avoid overcrowding the baking sheet.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat gently before serving.
  • You can substitute salted butter with unsalted butter and add a pinch of salt if preferred.
