Ingredients
Scale
Strudels
- 2 sheets puff pastry (thawed)
- â…” cup thick strawberry jam (seedless preferred)
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 large egg
- 1 Tablespoon water
Icing
- 1 ½ tablespoons salted butter (melted)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 ½ tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Place one sheet of puff pastry on a prepared sheet and gently roll it into a flat square. Cut this into 6 equal rectangles.
- Make Filling: In a small bowl, whisk together the strawberry jam and cornstarch until smooth to create a thick filling. Spoon about 1 ½ tablespoons of the jam mixture onto 3 of the puff pastry rectangles, leaving a ½-inch border all around.
- Apply Egg Wash: Whisk the egg and 1 tablespoon of water in a small bowl. Lightly brush the edges of the jam-covered rectangles with the egg wash using a pastry brush or fingertip to help seal the strudels.
- Assemble Strudels: Place the remaining puff pastry rectangles over the jam-covered ones and press the edges firmly to seal. Transfer the completed strudels to the refrigerator to chill while you prepare the second puff pastry sheet in the same way.
- Bake: Arrange all 6 sealed strudels on a single baking sheet. Lightly brush the tops with egg wash. Bake in the preheated oven for 16 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and let cool on a wire rack until just warm.
- Make Icing: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust with more milk if necessary to achieve a drizzle consistency.
- Glaze and Serve: Pour the icing into a small resealable plastic bag, snip off a tiny corner, and drizzle the icing over the cooled warm strudels. Serve and enjoy your homemade strawberry toaster strudels!
Notes
- Make sure puff pastry is fully thawed before working to prevent cracking.
- Use seedless thick jam for a smoother filling.
- For a crispier crust, avoid overcrowding the baking sheet.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat gently before serving.
- You can substitute salted butter with unsalted butter and add a pinch of salt if preferred.
