Ingredients
Scale
Cheesecake Filling
- 200 g (7 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 50 g (1/4 cup) granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup diced fresh strawberries
Sandwich Assembly
- 8 slices sandwich bread (white or brioche recommended)
Batter and Coating
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (optional)
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
Frying
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola), about 1 inch deep
Garnish
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Extra fresh strawberries or strawberry syrup
Instructions
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Spread the cheesecake filling evenly onto 4 slices of bread. The filling is made by combining softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and diced fresh strawberries for a creamy, fruity center.
- Seal the Sandwiches: Top each filled slice with the remaining 4 slices of bread. Press the edges gently to seal the sandwiches, and trim the crusts if you prefer a neat finish.
- Prepare to Fry: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable or canola oil in a frying pan over medium heat, bringing the temperature to approximately 175°C (350°F). This depth of oil will allow the sandwiches to fry evenly and become crispy.
- Fry the Sandwiches: Carefully place the sandwiches into the hot oil and fry for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until they turn a rich golden brown. Flip gently to avoid breaking the sandwiches and ensure even cooking.
- Drain and Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Dust with powdered sugar, and serve garnished with extra fresh strawberries or strawberry syrup for added flavor and presentation.
Notes
- Use brioche bread for a richer flavor and softer texture, but white sandwich bread works well too.
- Ensure cream cheese is softened to make spreading easier and the filling smoother.
- Optional cinnamon and sugar coating can be sprinkled on the sandwiches after frying for extra sweetness and texture.
- Maintain oil temperature to prevent overly greasy sandwiches.
- Serve immediately while warm for the best taste and texture.
