Description

These Garlic Butter Dinner Rolls are soft, fluffy, and infused with the rich flavors of garlic and butter. Made from scratch using active dry yeast, they are perfect for family dinners or special occasions, offering a warm and comforting addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for greasing)

For the Garlic Butter

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • ¼ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy and bubbly, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter to the flour. Stir to combine, then knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Add extra flour as needed if the dough is sticky.
  3. Let the dough rise: Lightly grease a bowl with olive oil and place the dough inside, turning once to coat it with oil. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  4. Shape the rolls: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball and place them evenly in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  5. Let the rolls rise again: Cover the rolls with a towel and allow them to rise for another 30 minutes until they are puffed and nearly doubled in size.
  6. Bake the rolls: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes until their tops turn golden brown and they sound hollow when tapped.
  7. Make garlic butter: While the rolls bake, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and salt in a small bowl to create a flavorful garlic butter mixture.
  8. Brush with garlic butter: Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Ensure your water is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • Kneading the dough properly is key to getting soft and fluffy rolls.
  • You can add more herbs like rosemary or thyme to the garlic butter for extra flavor.
  • Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or freeze for longer storage.
  • Reheat the rolls with a bit of extra garlic butter brushed on top for a fresh taste.
