Ingredients
Scale
Popcorn Base
- 10 cups popped popcorn
- Salt to taste
Marshmallow Coating
- 3 tablespoons salted butter
- 3 cups mini marshmallows
- Green food coloring (a mix of yellow and blue to achieve Grinch green)
Topping and Decoration
- 1/2 cup additional mini marshmallows
- Red M&M’s candies for decoration
Instructions
- Prepare popcorn: Pop 10 cups of popcorn using your preferred method. Make sure to remove any unpopped kernels, and lightly salt the popcorn to taste. Set aside in a large mixing bowl.
- Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large saucepan over low heat, melt 3 tablespoons of salted butter. Once melted, add 3 cups of mini marshmallows, stirring continuously until completely melted and smooth.
- Add green coloring: Stir in the green food coloring gradually, mixing a blend of yellow and blue until you achieve the signature Grinch green color in the melted marshmallow mixture.
- Combine popcorn and marshmallow mixture: Pour the green marshmallow mixture over the prepared popcorn. Use a heat-resistant spatula or wooden spoon to gently toss and coat the popcorn evenly without crushing it.
- Shape and add toppings: Transfer the coated popcorn onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and gently press it down to form an even layer. Quickly sprinkle 1/2 cup of additional mini marshmallows and red M&M’s candies on top for decoration. Allow the mixture to cool and set at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
- Serve: Once set, break the Grinch Popcorn into clusters or pieces and serve immediately or store in an airtight container for later enjoyment.
Notes
- For best results, work quickly when combining the marshmallow mixture and popcorn before it sets.
- You can adjust the amount of green food coloring to achieve your preferred shade of Grinch green.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to keep the popcorn fresh and crunchy.
- This recipe is a fun and kid-friendly holiday treat but contains dairy and sugar, so consider dietary restrictions.
