Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 500g / 1 lb chicken breast, boneless and skinless (2 pieces)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup flour
Sauce and Cooking
- 3 1/2 tbsp (50g) unsalted butter, divided (or 2 1/2 tbsp olive oil)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or white or other clear vinegar)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce, light or all purpose
- 1/3 cup honey (or maple syrup)
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken: Cut the chicken breasts horizontally into 4 thin steaks. Season both sides with salt and pepper to taste to enhance flavor.
- Coat with Flour: Place the flour in a shallow dish and dredge each chicken piece until evenly coated. Shake off excess flour to ensure a light coating that crisps nicely.
- Heat the Skillet and Cook Chicken: Melt most of the butter in a large skillet over high heat until hot. Add chicken pieces and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook the other side for 1 minute.
- Adjust Heat and Add Garlic: Lower heat to medium-high. Push chicken to one side of the skillet. Add minced garlic and the reserved butter dab; stir garlic briefly as butter melts to release aroma.
- Add Sauce Ingredients: Pour in apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Stir or gently shake skillet to combine and coat chicken evenly. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- Simmer Sauce and Coat Chicken: Let sauce simmer about 1 minute until slightly thickened. Turn chicken pieces in sauce to coat thoroughly. If sauce thickens too much, add a splash of water and stir.
- Finish and Serve: Remove skillet from heat immediately to prevent burning. Plate chicken and spoon remaining sauce over it. Serve hot and enjoy.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, substitute flour with cornstarch or gluten-free flour blend.
- Use maple syrup as an alternative to honey for a different sweet note.
- If sauce thickens too much, adjust consistency with a little water, stirring gently.
- Use light soy sauce to reduce saltiness or tamari for gluten-free option.
- Serve with steamed vegetables or rice for a complete meal.
