Ingredients
Scale
Tea Base
- 2 tablespoons Dried Butterfly Pea Flowers
- 2 cups Hot Water
Milk and Sweetener
- 1 cup Milk (dairy or plant-based like almond, coconut, or oat)
- 2 tablespoons Sweetener (honey or to taste)
To Serve
- 1 cup Ice Cubes
- 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice (optional)
Instructions
- Steep the Tea: Boil the water until bubbling and pour it over the dried butterfly pea flowers in a heat-proof cup. Allow the flowers to steep for 5-7 minutes until the water turns a deep blue, then strain the tea into another container and let it cool to room temperature.
- Add Sweetener: While the tea is still warm, add honey or your preferred sweetener. Stir vigorously until fully dissolved.
- Froth the Milk: Select your preferred milk type and froth it using a milk frother, a jar to shake vigorously, or a blender, until the milk is light and airy.
- Assemble the Latte: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes, pour the cooled butterfly pea tea over the ice, then gently add the frothed milk on top to create distinct layers.
- Add Lemon Juice (Optional): Drizzle lemon juice over the top of the latte for a citrusy twist and a magical color change effect.
- Garnish and Serve: Optionally, garnish with fresh or dried butterfly pea flowers on top of the frothy layer before serving.
Notes
- Use boiling water for the best color and flavor extraction from butterfly pea flowers.
- Adjust sweetener quantity to your taste preferences.
- Choosing a plant-based milk makes this a vegan-friendly option.
- Add lemon juice carefully as it changes the tea color from blue to purple/pink due to acidity.
- Frothing milk is optional but adds a lovely creamy texture and visual appeal.
- Serve immediately after assembly to enjoy the layered effect and refreshing chill.
