Ingredients
Scale
Steak and Rice
- 1 pound flank or sirloin steak
- 2 cups jasmine rice
Vegetables
- Assorted stir-fried vegetables (e.g., bell peppers, onions, carrots, zucchini) – about 3 cups
Garnishes and Extras
- Chopped green onions – 2 tablespoons
- Sesame seeds – 1 tablespoon
- Kimchi (optional) – 1/2 cup
- Red pepper flakes (optional) – to taste
- Sriracha sauce (optional) – to taste
Instructions
- Cook the rice: Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions or in a rice cooker until fluffy and tender.
- Prepare the steak: Slice the flank or sirloin steak thinly against the grain. You may marinate the steak briefly with soy sauce, garlic, and a bit of sugar for extra flavor if desired.
- Stir-fry the vegetables: Heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add your choice of vegetables and stir-fry until tender-crisp, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook the steak: In the same skillet or a separate pan, quickly sear the sliced steak over high heat for 1-2 minutes per side until browned but still tender.
- Assemble the bowls: In serving bowls, start with a scoop of fluffy jasmine rice. Top the rice with the stir-fried vegetables and then arrange the sliced steak on top.
- Add garnishes: Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds over the bowls. If using, add kimchi on the side and season with red pepper flakes and sriracha to taste for extra heat.
Notes
- You can customize the vegetables based on what you have available or prefer.
- Marinating the steak for 30 minutes to an hour can enhance the flavor, but it’s optional.
- Use fresh green onions and toasted sesame seeds for the best garnish flavor.
- Kimchi adds authentic Korean flavor and a probiotic boost but can be omitted.
- Sriracha and red pepper flakes provide heat; adjust according to your spice preference.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
