Description

Lemon Cream Cheese Bars combine buttery crescent roll layers with a tangy lemon cream cheese filling, topped with a sweet sugar glaze. These bars are perfect for a refreshing dessert or a bright snack, boasting a delightful balance of creamy texture and zesty citrus flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bars

  • Cooking spray, as needed
  • 2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
  • 2 lemons, zested and juiced
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Layer dough and cream cheese mixture: Unroll one package of crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, lemon zest, lemon juice, and ½ cup white sugar. Spread this creamy lemon mixture evenly over the dough layer in the pan.
  3. Top with second dough layer and add topping: Unroll the second package of crescent roll dough and lay it gently over the cream cheese layer. Brush the top layer with the melted butter. Mix 3 tablespoons of white sugar with a small amount of lemon zest, then sprinkle this sugar-zest mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
  4. Bake the bars: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bars are set. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely in the pan.
  5. Chill and serve: After cooling, refrigerate the bars for at least 2 hours to let them firm up before cutting into 24 squares. Serve chilled for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easy mixing and a smooth filling.
  • Use fresh lemons for the best flavor in the zest and juice.
  • These bars can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • For a decorative touch, dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.
  • Allow bars to chill fully to ensure clean slices when cutting.
