Description

These Magic Cookie Bars are a delicious, layered treat featuring a buttery graham cracker crust topped with sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, coconut, and nuts. Baked to a golden finish, they offer a perfect combination of chewy, crunchy, and sweet textures in every bite, ideal for parties, potlucks, or a simple homemade dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Layers

  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1â…“ cups flaked sweetened coconut
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). If using a glass baking dish, reduce the temperature to 325°F (165°C) to avoid overheating.
  2. Prepare the Pan: Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or foil for easy removal, and lightly coat it with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  3. Make the Crust: In a bowl, mix the graham cracker crumbs with melted butter until all crumbs are moistened. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form a firm crust.
  4. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk: Pour the entire can of sweetened condensed milk evenly over the crust, ensuring full coverage.
  5. Layer the Toppings: Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the sweetened condensed milk. Follow by layering the flaked sweetened coconut and then the chopped nuts on top.
  6. Press the Layers: Gently press down the layers with the back of a spatula to ensure they adhere together well for uniform baking.
  7. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is lightly browned and bubbly.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let the bars cool completely in the pan before lifting out, cutting into 24 bars, and serving.

Notes

  • For a glass baking dish, reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (165°C) to prevent overbrowning.
  • Use parchment paper or foil with non-stick spray to easily remove the bars without breaking.
  • Walnuts or pecans can be substituted with other nuts like almonds or hazelnuts if desired.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
  • To make clean cuts, use a sharp knife and wipe it between slices.
