Description

These Monte Cristo Sliders are a deliciously gooey and savory treat perfect for parties or family dinners. Layers of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese are stacked on soft Hawaiian rolls, brushed with a buttery egg wash, baked until golden brown and melty, and finished with a dusting of powdered sugar. Served with fruity jam for dipping, these sliders balance sweet and savory flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Sandwich

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 12 slices deli-sliced ham
  • 12 slices deli-sliced turkey
  • 12 slices deli-sliced Swiss cheese

Egg Wash

  • 1/3 cup (76 g) salted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Finishing Touch

  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • Raspberry or strawberry jam, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Spray a 9×13 inch baking pan with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Rolls: Without separating the rolls, slice the entire package in half horizontally. Place the bottom halves into the prepared baking pan.
  3. Assembly: Place half of the Swiss cheese slices over the bottom rolls. Next, layer all the ham slices, then all the turkey slices, and finally the remaining Swiss cheese slices. Top with the upper halves of the rolls.
  4. Make and Apply Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, and pepper. Using a pastry brush, evenly coat the tops of the rolls with this mixture.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the cheese is thoroughly melted and the tops are toasted golden brown. If the buns brown too quickly, tent with foil to prevent burning.
  6. Finishing Touch: Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the tops with powdered sugar. Optionally, serve with raspberry or strawberry jam for dipping.

Notes

  • Use Hawaiian rolls for the best sweet and soft texture that contrasts well with the savory fillings.
  • You can substitute deli turkey and ham with your preferred sandwich meats.
  • To prevent the tops from burning, tent the sliders with foil halfway through baking if they brown too fast.
  • Serve warm with raspberry or strawberry jam for a classic Monte Cristo experience.
  • Make sure to brush the egg wash evenly for a beautiful golden finish.
