These flaky, golden rolls are a perfect appetizer or snack, combining creamy feta cheese wrapped in crunchy phyllo dough, enhanced with a hint of garlic and fresh herbs, and finished with a warm, tangy honey and chili sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Feta Rolls:
- 8 oz feta cheese, crumbled
- 6 sheets phyllo dough
- 1/4 cup olive oil, for brushing
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fresh herbs (such as oregano or thyme), chopped (optional)
For the Chili Honey Drizzle:
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: Crumble the feta cheese into a bowl. Add garlic powder and fresh herbs if using, and gently mix to combine all flavors evenly.
- Assemble the Rolls: Lay one sheet of phyllo dough flat and brush it lightly with olive oil. Place another sheet on top and brush again. Spoon the feta mixture along the short edge, then roll up tightly into a log. Brush the outside of the roll with olive oil to ensure a crispy finish.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and crispy.
- Make the Chili Honey Drizzle: In a small saucepan over low heat, warm the honey and chili flakes together until fragrant and slightly thinned. Remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice. Keep the sauce warm.
- Serve: Remove the rolls from the oven and transfer to a serving plate. Drizzle generously with the warm chili honey sauce. Serve immediately to enjoy the contrast of crispy, creamy, and sweet-spicy flavors.
Notes
- Phyllo dough is delicate and tends to dry out quickly; keep sheets covered with a damp cloth while assembling.
- You can customize the herbs according to your preference, such as dill, parsley, or basil.
- Adjust the chili flakes amount depending on your heat tolerance.
- Serve this appetizer warm for the best texture and flavor experience.
- Leftovers can be reheated in the oven to retain crispiness.
