Description

This vibrant and refreshing Passion Fruit Margarita combines the tropical sweetness of passion fruit with the zesty punch of lime and the smoothness of your preferred spirit. Enhanced with Cointreau or triple sec, this cocktail is a perfect balance of tangy, sweet, and smoky notes (optional mezcal) finished with a flavorful rim and elegant garnish, making it ideal for summer gatherings or a festive treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 ounces smooth, flavorful spirit (tequila recommended)
  • 1 ounce Cointreau or triple sec
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1 ounce passion fruit purée
  • Pulp of half a passion fruit
  • Ice

Optional Additions

  • ½ ounce agave syrup (1 tablespoon) for extra sweetness
  • ½ ounce mezcal (1 tablespoon) for smoky flavor

For Rimming

  • Lime wedge
  • Chili salt, flaky sea salt, or Tajín

Garnish

  • Passion fruit slice
  • Edible flower (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glass rim: Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a cocktail glass to moisten it, then dip the rim into chili salt, flaky sea salt, or Tajín to coat it evenly. Set the glass aside.
  2. Mix the cocktail: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the spirit, Cointreau or triple sec, fresh lime juice, passion fruit purée, and if desired, agave syrup and mezcal for extra sweetness and smoky flavor.
  3. Shake vigorously: Shake the mixture vigorously until the cocktail shaker feels very cold, ensuring all ingredients are well combined and chilled.
  4. Serve the cocktail: Fill the rimmed glass with ice, spoon the pulp of half a passion fruit on top of the ice, then strain the shaken cocktail mixture into the glass over the ice.
  5. Garnish and enjoy: Garnish with a slice of passion fruit and an edible flower if desired. Serve immediately to enjoy the freshest and most vibrant flavors.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less agave syrup according to your taste preference.
  • The mezcal is optional but adds a unique smoky depth to the cocktail, perfect for those who enjoy a complex flavor profile.
  • Tajín or chili salt on the rim adds a spicy kick that complements the tartness of the passion fruit and lime.
  • Use fresh passion fruit purée and lime juice for the best taste and vibrant citrus notes.
  • This recipe is designed for one serving but can easily be scaled up for multiple cocktails.
