Description
This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a creamy, savory appetizer inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. It features tender thinly sliced ribeye steak cooked with onions and green peppers, combined with a rich blend of cream cheese, mayonnaise, provolone, and mozzarella cheeses. Baked until bubbly and golden, it’s perfect for serving warm as a crowd-pleasing party dip with baguette slices, pita chips, or fresh vegetables.
Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 lb thinly sliced ribeye steak or sirloin
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 small green bell pepper, chopped
Cheese and Dairy
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Seasonings and Oils
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare and Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper, sautéing them until softened, approximately 5 minutes.
- Cook the Steak: Add the thinly sliced ribeye steak to the skillet. Cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking the meat into small pieces as it cooks, about 4 to 5 minutes.
- Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant. Remove the skillet from the heat and set aside.
- Mix the Cheese and Seasonings: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Mix until blended well.
- Combine Meat with Cheese Mixture: Fold the shredded provolone and mozzarella cheeses into the cream cheese mixture. Then add the cooked steak, onion, and green pepper mixture, stirring until everything is evenly combined.
- Bake the Dip: Transfer the combined mixture to a baking dish, spreading it evenly. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and the top is lightly golden.
- Serve: Allow the dip to cool slightly before serving warm with sliced baguette, pita chips, or fresh veggies for dipping.
Notes
- For a smoother texture, blend the cream cheese and mayonnaise mixture until creamy before folding in the cooked steak and vegetables.
- A splash of beef broth or beer added to the meat mixture can enhance the dip’s flavor.
- Provolone cheese can be substituted with American cheese for a creamier texture.
- Adding sautéed mushrooms can introduce an earthy flavor to the dip.
- Boost the spice level by increasing crushed red pepper flakes or incorporating a dash of hot sauce.
