Description

A savory and comforting breakfast pizza featuring a flaky crescent roll crust topped with creamy sausage gravy and a blend of melted cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. Perfect for a crowd, this recipe combines classic breakfast flavors into an easy-to-make oven-baked dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough

Sausage Gravy

  • 0.5 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup whole milk
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Toppings

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Crust: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or sheet pan, then unroll the crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the prepared dish, sealing the seams carefully. Bake for about 8 minutes until the dough is lightly golden.
  2. Cook Sausage: While the crust is baking, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add ground breakfast sausage and cook until browned and crumbled, making sure not to drain the grease to retain flavor and moisture.
  3. Make Sausage Gravy: Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1 minute, then gradually whisk in the whole milk. Continue stirring constantly until the gravy thickens, approximately 3 to 5 minutes. Season the gravy with black pepper.
  4. Assemble Pizza: Spread the hot sausage gravy evenly over the pre-baked crescent roll crust.
  5. Add Cheese Toppings: Sprinkle shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the sausage gravy layer.
  6. Bake Pizza: Return the assembled pizza to the oven and bake for an additional 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, optionally garnish with chopped fresh parsley, then allow the pizza to cool slightly. Slice into 12 squares and serve warm.

Notes

  • Do not drain sausage grease to keep the gravy rich and flavorful.
  • Use whole milk for the creamiest gravy texture; low-fat milk can be used but may alter consistency.
  • Fresh parsley adds a nice fresh burst of color and flavor but can be omitted if unavailable.
  • Ensure crescent roll dough seams are sealed to prevent the gravy from leaking during baking.
  • Serve immediately for best taste; leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated.
