Ingredients
Scale
Dough:
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
Sausage Gravy:
- 0.5 pound ground breakfast sausage
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 0.75 cup whole milk
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
Toppings:
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 0.5 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Crust: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or sheet pan. Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it into the dish, making sure to seal any seams. Bake the crust in the oven for 8 minutes until it is lightly golden brown.
- Cook Sausage: While the crust bakes, heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the ground breakfast sausage until it is browned and crumbled. Do not drain the grease as it adds flavor to the gravy.
- Make Sausage Gravy: Sprinkle the all-purpose flour over the cooked sausage and stir for 1 minute to incorporate. Slowly whisk in the whole milk while stirring continuously until the gravy thickens, about 3 to 5 minutes. Season the gravy with black pepper to taste.
- Assemble Pizza: Spread the sausage gravy evenly over the pre-baked crescent roll crust, creating a smooth layer.
- Add Cheese: Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over the sausage gravy layer.
- Bake Pizza: Return the assembled pizza to the oven and bake for an additional 8 to 10 minutes until the cheeses have melted and are bubbly and golden.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and optionally garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Allow to cool slightly, then slice into 12 squares. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- You can substitute whole milk with 2% milk for a lighter version.
- Use spicy breakfast sausage if you prefer a bit of heat in your gravy.
- For a lower-fat option, use reduced-fat cheese and turkey sausage.
- Chopping fresh parsley adds a bright, fresh flavor but is optional.
- Make sure to seal the crescent roll seams well to prevent the gravy from leaking.
- This pizza is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated.
