Ingredients
Scale
Beef Mixture
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 (1 oz) packet taco seasoning
- ¼ cup water or beef broth
- 1 cup refried beans (optional)
Additional Fillings
- 2 cups cooked Mexican rice (or instant rice)
- 4 burrito-sized flour tortillas
- 2 cups Fritos or Doritos
- 1 cup cheese dip (warmed, such as Tostitos)
- 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend
- ½ cup sour cream
- Salsa (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Cook the Beef: Brown the ground beef in a sauté pan over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spatula until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the taco seasoning along with the water or beef broth and simmer for 1 minute. If using, mix in the refried beans until evenly combined.
- Prepare the Rice: Cook the Mexican rice according to package instructions, or reheat leftover rice. Make sure the rice is warm and ready for assembling.
- Warm the Tortillas: Wrap the flour tortillas in a damp paper towel and microwave for about 30 seconds to make them pliable for rolling.
- Assemble the Burritos: Lay one warmed tortilla flat on a clean surface. Add a portion of the beef mixture, followed by a scoop of warm rice, a handful of Fritos or Doritos, a generous spoonful of warm cheese dip, shredded cheese, and a dollop of sour cream.
- Fold the Burritos: Fold in the sides of the tortilla and roll it from the bottom up to enclose all the fillings securely. Repeat this process for the remaining tortillas and fillings.
- Serve: Enjoy the burritos as they are, or briefly heat them in a skillet over medium heat for a crispy exterior. Serve with salsa on the side if desired.
Notes
- You can substitute beef broth for water to add more flavor to the beef mixture.
- Refried beans are optional but add creaminess and richness to the filling.
- Warming the tortillas makes them more flexible and easier to wrap without tearing.
- Heating the assembled burritos in a skillet will give a crispy outer texture similar to the restaurant version.
- Adjust the spice level by choosing mild or hot taco seasoning packets.
- Leftover burritos can be wrapped tightly and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
