Ingredients
Scale
For the Burger Patties
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80 percent lean)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
For the Toppings and Assembly
- 4 pineapple rings (fresh or canned and drained)
- 4 slices provolone or Swiss cheese
- 4 hamburger buns, split
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1/2 cup sliced red onion
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
Instructions
- Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until just combined. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into patties slightly larger than the buns to allow for shrinkage during cooking.
- Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat and lightly brush it with olive oil to prevent sticking and enhance searing.
- Grill the Burgers: Place the patties on the grill and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). During the last 2 minutes, brush each patty generously with teriyaki sauce and top with a slice of cheese to melt.
- Grill the Pineapple: While the burgers cook, place the pineapple rings on the grill and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, allowing them to caramelize and heat through.
- Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill for added texture and flavor.
- Assemble the Burgers: Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Layer a lettuce leaf, the cooked burger patty with melted cheese, a grilled pineapple ring, and sliced red onion. Top with the remaining bun halves and serve immediately.
Notes
- Substitute ground turkey for a lighter option while keeping similar flavor.
- Add sliced avocado or a sprinkle of chopped cilantro to enhance the tropical notes.
- Adjust the amount of teriyaki sauce based on your taste preference for sweetness and tang.
