Description

These Tropical Burgers combine juicy grilled beef patties with sweet, caramelized pineapple rings and a savory teriyaki glaze, topped with melted provolone or Swiss cheese. Perfect for summer grilling, they offer a delicious blend of smoky, sweet, and tangy flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Burger Patties

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80 percent lean)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

For the Toppings and Assembly

  • 4 pineapple rings (fresh or canned and drained)
  • 4 slices provolone or Swiss cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns, split
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1/2 cup sliced red onion
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until just combined. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into patties slightly larger than the buns to allow for shrinkage during cooking.
  2. Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat and lightly brush it with olive oil to prevent sticking and enhance searing.
  3. Grill the Burgers: Place the patties on the grill and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). During the last 2 minutes, brush each patty generously with teriyaki sauce and top with a slice of cheese to melt.
  4. Grill the Pineapple: While the burgers cook, place the pineapple rings on the grill and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, allowing them to caramelize and heat through.
  5. Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill for added texture and flavor.
  6. Assemble the Burgers: Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Layer a lettuce leaf, the cooked burger patty with melted cheese, a grilled pineapple ring, and sliced red onion. Top with the remaining bun halves and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Substitute ground turkey for a lighter option while keeping similar flavor.
  • Add sliced avocado or a sprinkle of chopped cilantro to enhance the tropical notes.
  • Adjust the amount of teriyaki sauce based on your taste preference for sweetness and tang.
